Asheville
ranked on Forbes.com "2012 Best Cities for Job Growth" Economic growth and innovation
is not just led by large cities. Forbes.com May 2012 reported a recent
NewGeography ranking of metros to determine the “2012 Best Cities for Job
Growth.” The Asheville metro ranked #13 of 91 “medium-sized cities,” or regions
with employment of 150-450k. In the “all cities” category, or 398
metros, Asheville ranked #75. Asheville jumped considerably in both
groups compared to its 2011 ranking. Rankings were based on recent growth trends, mid-term
growth, long-term growth and the region’s momentum using U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics employment data. For more Asheville area
rankings, visit our Research and Reports.

What Constitutes "Reasonable Factors Other Than Age"? Under the
Age Discrimination in Employment Act, an employer may avoid liability for
employment practices that have a disparate impact on individuals in the
protected age group (40 and over) by showing that it acted based on
"reasonable factors other than age" (commonly known as the
"RFOA" defense). Last week, the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission published a final rule concerning the RFOA defense. The rule,
which will take effect on April 30, is expected to make it more difficult for
employers to prevail on age-based disparate impact claims. EEOC's Final Regulation Raises the Bar
